2009 La Romanee
By Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair
2009 La Romanee from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair, Burgundy, France
At the pinnacle of viticulture finesse sits the 2009 La Romanee from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair—one of Burgundy’s most venerated treasures. This vintage, astonishing in its poise and pedigree, anoints the senses with a complexity that few others can command.
The Elegance of Exceptional Provenance
Nestled in the heart of Vosne-Romanée, Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair is synonymous with an unwavering commitment to quality. Among such illustrious parcels, La Romanee’s mere 2.1 acres yield a paltry amount of wine, rendering its 2009 expression both rare and revered by connoisseurs and investors alike.
Purity of Vintage: The Genesis of Peach Blossom and Cherry Silk
The year 2009 was blessed with consistent sunlight and an untroubled growing season that culminated in a harvest offering optimal ripeness. In this benevolent climate, La Romanee’s venerable vines coaxed from their roots a wine laced with the delicate scent of peach blossom and a core as rich as cherry silk—a regal testament to their storied terroir.
Gossamer tannins weave through an expansive palate, bolstered by an undercurrent of minerality distinctive to the region. In each glass, the integration of these elements reaches its zenith; a revelation of balance where every sip reveals new crescendos of flavour, evoking the sensation of leaves unfurling beneath the gentle breath of spring.
A Vintage Worthy of Pursuit
The investment landscape for fine wines demands both discerning judgement and an appreciation for artistic craftsmanship embedded within every bottle. The 2009 La Romanee from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair exemplifies these qualities, as its finite allocation assures growth in allure—as well as potential monetary value—over time. For those who seek to enrich their portfolios with vinicultural royalty, this vintage not only promises an extraordinary sensory journey but also symbolises a strategic asset worthy of careful consideration.
For collectors who recognise the blend of heritage and exceptional climatic conditions that conspire to make great vintages stand out, the 2009 La Romanee is undeniably one to secure. Cue its beguiling bouquet and eloquent palate—it remains one of Burgundy's most compelling narratives in a bottle.

Tasted at the La Romanée vertical at Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair. The 2009 La Romanée Grand Cru is going from strength to strength. It has a clear dark garnet colour. The nose is exquisite, perhaps having dispensed with just some of its nascent richness since I last tasted it in 2011, armed with bewitching wild strawberry, raspberry coulis scents that crescendo. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin, beautifully balanced with that tincture of dried blood extant. There is real finesse and poise embroidered in this La Romanée that knows that sometimes less is more. Tasted June 2015.
