Pedigree and Precision: A Vintage's Veritable Value
In the sphere of fine wine investment, the 2002 Clos St Denis from Domaine Dujac presents itself with august confidence. The season's moderate temperatures culminated in an unhurried maturation of the Pinot Noir grapes, ensuring a spectrum of sophisticated flavours bound together by a resplendent tannic structure. This auspicious alignment has rendered a vintage whose potential for cellar ageing is most compelling—an alluring prospect for the assiduous collector.
A Symphony of Seasons
Burgundy's 2002 vintage was spared from extreme conditions, yielding a crop that flourished under temperate skies. It was the subtleties of the season that permitted a wine such as this Clos St Denis to transcend its already lofty expectations; it sings rather than shouts. The open secret behind this era lies in the nights cool enough to whisper elegance into every berry, days just warm enough to caress them to ripeness—not roast.
The pour is ensconced in a bouquet that marries ripe cherries with a whispering undercurrent of earth and herbs, foretelling of its profound depth. Its texture portrays a finesse akin to silk brocade—opulent yet halcyon—a palpable evidence of Domaine Dujac’s masterful oak integration. On the palate, one finds notes of dark berries intertwined with subtle spices and an enduring minerality, a hallmark of grand cru excellence.
To sample the 2002 Clos St Denis from Domaine Dujac is to uncover layers with each sip; mature yet vibrant with life—reflective of its grand cru pedigree and suggestive of its value both to collector and connoisseur. This wine offers not just a sublime experience—it is an astute asset along any investor's journey through enological elegance.Market price (USD)

The 2002 Clos St.-Denis, often one of Dujac’s finest wines, was surprisingly light. According to Jeremy Seysses it performed its malolactic fermentation much earlier than the other 2002s, completing it in January 2003 while the others did so between March and June. Light to medium-ruby-colored and offering delicate floral as well as red berry aromas, it is a light to medium-bodied wine. Subtle and elegant, it exhibits pretty red fruit flavors in a feminine, soft format, without the power found in Dujac’s other 2002s. Well-fashioned and with impressive complexity, it is a candidate for drinking over the next 6-7 years. Importer: Wilson-Daniels, St. Helena, CA; tel. (707) 963-9661
