A Vintage to Remember
The growing season of 1990 ushered in favourable conditions—a mild winter followed by a timely and gentle spring. Summer's warmth came without excess, nurturing the grapes to a state of optimal ripeness, which is luxuriously echoed in each sip of this esteemed Echezeaux. Domaine Dujac, known for its unwavering commitment to expressing terroir, captured the vintage's quintessence with deft precision.
Eloquent Expression of a Heralded Year
Having matured gracefully over three decades, the 1990 Echezeaux now reveals a complex aromatic spectrum, where initial hints of ripe cherries and blackcurrants unfurl into subtle layers of earth, truffle, and an enchanting array of spices—a symphony conducted by time itself. On the palate, this grand cru exhibits an impeccably balanced structure. The soft tannins, once firm in the vitality of youth, have mellowed to a delicate silkiness that complements the enduring fruit character. It is a testament to both the climatic benevolence of 1990 and Domaine Dujac's masterful artistry.
For those investing in fine wines, this epitome of Burgundian craftsmanship is not simply an indulgence but a tangible asset. The longevity of the 1990 vintage continues to attract attention within investment circles, its ascending arc on maturity curves further accentuating its desirability.
In sum, the 1990 Echezeaux from Domaine Dujac is one of those rare jewels from Burgundy's storied mosaic—a harmonious marriage between an outstanding vintage and a vintner's devotion to their craft. It encapsulates all that we seek in Burgundian grandeur: elegance, complexity, and an exquisitely storied lineage that resonates deeply with both palate and portfolio.

Jacques Seysses is immensely proud of his 1990s, proclaiming them the finest wines he has made since 1978. He said the same thing about his 1985s, but I agree that the 1990s appear to have greater potential for longevity. I found Dujac's Echezeaux to possess an attractive raspberry, floral-scented nose, medium-bodied, soft, stylish flavors, low acidity, and light tannins. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. Importers: Frederick Wildman, New York, NY, Chambers and Chambers, San Francisco, CA, and a handful of other importers who import Dujac's wines directly into their respective states.
