2011 Romanee St Vivant
By Domaine Dujac
2011 Romanee St Vivant from Domaine Dujac, Burgundy, France
The 2011 vintage in the storied appellation of Romanee St Vivant shines as a beacon of nuanced elegance, and the offering from Domaine Dujac is no exception. This remarkable vintage reflects both the unique climatic challenges and the deft handling of the Dujac team, both of which coalesce into an enchanting Burgundian experience.
Understated Opulence: A Fine Vintage's Hallmark
The 2011 season brought a cooler summer to Burgundy, making winemakers earn their merit with meticulous vineyard management and selective harvests. Domaine Dujac rose to the occasion, presenting a Romanee St Vivant that harmonises the subtlety of cooler-weather fruit with their signature vinicultural expertise. In this vintage, one discerns a tapestry woven with vibrant red fruits, notably ripe cherries and strawberries, directed by a poised earthiness and an intimate whisper of oak.
Winemaking Mastery Meets Favourable Providence
In the glass, the wine emanates a kaleidoscope of aromas characteristic of an idealised Pinot Noir: violets, fresh-turned earth, mingled with ethereal spice. The prestige of Domaine Dujac comes through in the silk-like texture, a performance of balance between structure and finesse. Herein lies the investment appeal; a wine whose quiet confidence promises development and sophistication over time.
Savour this 2011 nascent masterpiece now or watch it unfurl its potential in the years to come. This vintage is one for the collector alert to opportunity—its scarcity and thriving demand posing an undeniable enticement in the fine wine investment sphere.
Epitomising Grace: The Consummate Collector's Choice
To encapsulate, the 2011 Romanee St Vivant from Domaine Dujac is an illustrative ambassador of Burgundy's resilience and depth. It serves as a testament to how poised viticulture and adept winemaking coalesce into something far greater—a wine whose presence in any portfolio reaffirms a commitment to quality and enduring value.

Scores and tasting notes
The 2011 Romanee-St-Vivant Grand Cru has an appealing, very fragrant bouquet with pure blackberry, boysenberry, black tea and wilted rose petals that are all beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity and a tightly wound, mineral-rich finish that just tapers a little when I wanted it to fan out across the mouth. Still, I would afford this three or four years in bottle as there is great potential. I have been visiting Jeremy and Alec Seysses at Domaine Dujac for several years now, and it is always one of my favorite ports of call. Alec, looking surprisingly chipper for a new dad had taken time off nappy duty to guide me through the 2011s this year. I have to confess that I was concerned by the conspicuous nature of the new oak on both their negociant label wines and the entry Village Crus. I felt that 35% new oak tended to overwhelm the fruit and terroir and occasionally impart drying finishes, which is why my scores are parsimonious here. As I tasted through the range toward the flock of Grand Crus the oak seemed better assimilated, although I would still maintain that the wine is of such quality that the present level of oak risks being superfluous to requirements. All the negociant label wines were bottled before Christmas. Importers: The Sorting Table, Napa, CA; tel. (415) 491-4724; Chambers & Chambers Wine Merchants, San Francisco, CA; tel. (415) 642-5500
