The 2010 vintage in Burgundy is often heralded as a beacon of balance and precision, deftly captured by the distinguished craftsmanship at Domaine Georges Roumier. The Charmes Chambertin appellation holds a special allure for connoisseurs, and within this revered terrain, the 2010 Charmes Chambertin from Domaine Georges Roumier exemplifies the harmonious symbiosis of terroir and vinification finesse.
Terroir and Tenacity: A Testament to the 2010 Vintage
Post a challenging growing season beset with capricious weather, the resolve of the vines bore fruition in the form of small yet concentrated berries. This concentration is manifest in the remarkable intensity of the 2010 Charmes Chambertin from Domaine Georges Roumier. A wine that personifies the essence of its climatic hardships, expressing itself with pronounced vigour and structural competency.
A Vintage of Vigilance and Virtue
Likened as a reflection of its vintage, the 2010 Charmes Chambertin rejoices in ruby translucence while hinting at depth akin to old masters' oil paintings. A bouquet burgeoning with ripe cherries, robust earthiness, and whispers of truffle beckon to an intricate palate. Firm yet polished tannins dance alongside notes of forest floor and black currants, guiding sippers through an elegantly tailored finish.
Subsequent cellaring has graciously imbued this offering with silken textures while maintaining its youthful vibrancy—an alluring dichotomy for fine wine investors seeking longevity married with ready charm.
A Case Consideration for Connoisseurs and Collectors Alike
In sum, the 2010 vintage grants an eloquent statement about the resilience of Pinot Noir under duress, especially when nurtured by hands as adept as those at Domaine Georges Roumier. It stands as a paragon within one's portfolio, both for pleasure and as a prudent asset capable of accruing grace and value over time. The savoir-faire encapsulated within each bottle makes the 2010 Charmes Chambertin from Domaine Georges Roumier an unmissable acquisition against the pantheon of Burgundian vintages.

The 2010 Charmes-Chambertin is all about grace and understatement. Sweet, ethereal and seamless, the Charmes impresses for its silky texture and highly expressive personality. Roumier’s parcel is in Mazoyeres and is farmed under a metayage agreement. The bottles are sold under the Christophe Roumier label rather than under the domaine label. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030. The only real problem with Christophe Roumier’s 2010s is the production, which was severely compromised by the December 2009 frost and the poor weather of 2010, especially during the flowering. On a more positive note, the wines are marked by their total transparency. Some of the entry-level wines are a bit on the light side, but the best 1er Crus and the Grand Crus are magical. Roumier started picking on September 28. Some of the wines were lightly chaptalized. I will report on the 2009s in our April issue. Importer: Diageo Chateau & Estate Wines, Napa CA; tel.
