The turn of the millennium was monumental for more than just its symbolic significance; it was also a watermark year for Burgundian viticulture. The 2000 vintage in Burgundy, adored for its approachability and early maturation, shines a light on the Nuits St Georges les Cras from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair. This Pinot Noir from the heart of the Côte de Nuits speaks of a vintage blessed by balanced weather, setting a stage for this profound expression.
Investing in Elegance: The 2000 Vintage
The 2000 Nuits St Georges les Cras is a remarkable illustration of how the melange of terroir and temperate climatic conditions can conspire to produce magic in a bottle. I commend Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair's dedication to capturing the unique essence of each season's bounty in the delicate orchestration of fine wine-making techniques that so clearly honour the illustrious characteristics of their vineyards.
A Vintage with Poise
As we delve into this particular cuvée, one is immediately struck by the charming bouquet, laced with aromas of readied cherry and woodland spice that nod respectfully to the typical nuances of its terroir. On the palate, there’s an inviting complexity—a textural celebration that bears witness to silky tannins and elegant layers that unfold like chapters of a riveting novel. Savoury undertones, interlaced with subtle earthy notes, establish this vintage as one worthy of investment consideration for those with an insightful palette and an eye on portfolio diversification.
Evidently, two decades since its inception, the 2000 Nuits St Georges les Cras showcases a poised maturity that makes it a compelling selection for aficionados seeking to integrate esteemed vintages into their collection. Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair has indeed sculpted a delightful wine narrative with their 2000 rendition.

While I loved the plush, sensual nature of the toasted, mineral-scented 2002 Batard-Montrachet, it does not possess the levels of concentration found in the Pucelles. Medium-bodied, rich, and deep, this tangy, mineral-flavored offering is a candidate for drinking over the next 8 years. To Pierre Morey, the 2002s are “from normal yields and reflect their terroir, two signs of a great vintage.” He went on to add, “Though it was an easy year in the vineyard without any burnt grapes, freezes, or hail, I’ll admit we were very worried between the twentieth of August and tenth of September, when the weather was wet and dreary. Thankfully, we were saved by the north wind.” He added that in 2003, Puligny-Montrachet had battled freeze, multiple hailstorms, and oidium (powdery mildew).
