By Maison Joseph Drouhin

2010 Bonnes-Mares from Maison Joseph Drouhin, Burgundy, France

The consummate 2010 Bonnes-Mares from Maison Joseph Drouhin signifies a vintage of formidable poise and structure, standing out in the storied annals of Burgundian excellence.

Finesse of the Vintage

Unquestionably, the year 2010 was punctuated by climatic challenges that demanded the astuteness and deft touch tasted in every sip of this distinguished wine. A cool growing season with bouts of rain culminated in an unexpectedly stellar harvest, presenting a limited yield of grapes with concentrated flavours. The Bonnes-Mares terroir rises eloquently to the challenge, as always, imparting its signature minerality and vibrant acidity upon this prized elixir.

A Tapestry of Complexity

In the glass, the wine gleams like a polished gemstone, whilst aromatic layers of dark cherry, violets and subtle earthiness suffuse the air. The palate is graced with a kaleidoscope of forest floor and ripe berry essences, married impeccably with whispers of oak and spice accrued from meticulous aging. Indeed, 2010 bestowed upon this Bonnes-Mares an intriguing balance between muscular tannins and the silky elegance known to aficionados of Maison Joseph Drouhin's craftsmanship – a balance that conveys its investment-worthy potential.

Strategic Sophistication for Connoisseurs

Experts note that discerning investors should pay heed to the 2010 Bonnes-Mares for its potential longevity and future appreciation. This vintage embodies precision in viniculture, a testament to the resilience and ingenuity practiced at Maison Joseph Drouhin in one of Burgundy’s most extolled vineyards.

In summary, this vintage weaves a narrative of climatic adversity turned triumph through viticultural prowess. The 2010 Bonnes-Mares from Maison Joseph Drouhin provides not just a palatable journey but also posits a compelling case for any fine wine investment portfolio seeking depth and diversity. It is an articulate expression of its terroir and year - laudable today, invaluable tomorrow.

The 2010 Bonnes-Mares is weightless and elegant. With time in the glass it shows off lovely inner perfume and plenty of grace. The tannins are firm, but also quite refined, showing the proximity to Chambolle, a theme that reappears in the striking aromatics. I especially admire the energy and verve that shapes the finish. This is a hugely inviting wine. Sadly, there is just one 350-liter barrel to go around. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2040. This is an impressive showing from Drouhin. In my view the 2010s are more interesting and transparent than the 2009s. Veronique Drouhin describes 2010 as a vintage with long-term aging potential, which certainly seems to be the case. Some of the wines were vinified with a portion of whole clusters, including the Corton-Bressandes, Petits-Monts, Charmes and Musigny. Importer: Dreyfus Ashby & Co., New York, NY; tel. (212) 818-0770
