A Vintage Defined by Virtue and Vibrancy
Amidst the tapestry of Burgundy's celebrated climats, 1996 stands out as a year where nature granted the region's vignerons with challenges that, in turn, carved out wines of incredible structure and allure. Maison Joseph Drouhin's interpretation of this vintage captures the essence of Musigny's terroir with poignant precision.
The 1996 season heralded in cooler than average temperatures coupled with an extended growing season, wrapping vines in a cradle of ideal maturation conditions. The resulting harvest for the esteemed Maison Joseph Drouhin nurtured grapes that transcended into a Musigny with impeccable balance.
A Confluence of Complexity and Composure
This particular Musigny seduces with an aromatic bouquet laced with hints of ripe cherries, wafts of violets, and a beguiling undercurrent of earthiness – hallmarks of tradition yet articulated with a freshness that betrays the wine's age. On the palate, its grace is punctuated by firm, almost regal tannins and an acidity that dances with vitality, each sip unfurling layers of flavour texturing the very essence of what makes a vintage distinct.
Maison Joseph Drouhin’s approach to viticulture and vinification presents itself within this Musigny through meticulous attention to detail. Each element, from vineyard to cellar, conspires to offer an investment-worthy wine whose narrative is woven from the vines of one of Burgundy's finest patches of soil.
In conclusion, those fortunate to commune with the 1996 Musigny from Maison Joseph Drouhin will find themselves rewarded with a conversation not soon forgotten, speaking both of history and hope. Scores and tasting notes
This dark-colored wine has malty black cherry scents and a broad-shouldered, masculine, highly-structured (verging on tannic) character. Its chewy texture offers loads of sweetened and creamed blackberries, violets, and earth. This wine coats the mouth with copious quantities of fine tannins that, in time, will easily be overcome by this impressive offering's dense fruit. Drink it between 2005 and 2010+. This wine is more concentrated and extracted than what I am used to at Maison Joseph Drouhin. Importer: Dreyfus Ashby, New York, NY; tel (212) 818-0770.
